Director of Engineering
VarLabs, Inc. is looking for an intelligent, passionate Director of Engineering that loves to build applications on Social Networking platforms. As a Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for helping with the overall planning, system architecture, execution, and success of the development of our industry disrupting products. You will be joining a game-changing company at the ground level and have a huge opportunity to shape our future.
The Director of Engineering is responsible for managing the full product development lifecycle: from design and testing to troubleshooting. The position ultimately requires heavy interaction with Product Management and Quality Assurance Teams.
Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Create Technology - Implement technology architecture direction, development procedures, and guidelines.
- Contribute to the Roadmap - Develop product strategy that is founded in the needs of VarLabs' users, in line with VarLabs' objective to provide individuals a better shopping experience and acheives VarLabs' business objectives.
- Mentor Teammates - Work with developers to think through software design. Be able to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Work with QA - Create effective QA strategies that encompass all technological offerings.
- Manage Resources - Be one step ahead in assessing engineering shortages.
- Build your own team - Be able to recruit high end talent from top schools around the country.
Requirements
- Passion for VarLabs' mission and vision. You’ve gotta love the idea.
- Have an understanding of all facets of web/software development, from information architecture and hardware infrastructure to organizing code.
- Knack for tinkering with new technologies and thinking creatively.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Habit of writing/drawing good, understandable documentation.
- Passion for new technologies.
- 4+ years of programming experience demonstrating an intimate understanding of the craft as well as ability to learn new languages quickly and proficiently.
- 3+ years of infrastructure experience spanning at least two of the following: performance tuning, scaling, redundancy, and organized deployment
- Proven track record of shipping successful products.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working in cross–functional teams.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree from top tier school.
